In
1994, a group of seniors formed ITTHO Indian Undergrads with the presidency led by
Thavakumar. This group of seniors was all polytechnic grads. At then the objective was
solely to educate and improve the awareness of education importance among Indian students.
Thus they formed AOL (Art of Learning). Its first major test was in Johor
Bahru. From then
on there was many AOL done in Kluang, Masai, Sepang, Batu Pahat and Kulai. By this time
the intake of Indian Undergrads had almost tripled the initial amount. Therefore they
renamed the society to ITTHO Indian Society (ITTHOIS).
From 97 onwards the SPM leavers were also given opportunity to
continue higher education in ITTHO. The renaming streeded of with full speed ahead but
this time around with more composed reasons. Thus their new objective was to be a
platform for Indian Undergrads to give opinion on ITTHO. Its activities were more focused
in surrounding areas.
At this time the ITTHOIS was only under partial
officiallization, thus its relationship with MPM was mutual-understanding. ITTHOIS was
also to be a socially background society. Therefore, their visit to the Sri Ramakrishna
Ashramam in Melaka only the 5th February 1999 was to shower love for the less fortunate.
Then on 18 December 1999 we exposed varsity life for school students from plantations
areas in Kampung Gecko, Bahau, Negeri Sembilan. Apart from this mega projects, there are
projects that are done semesterly. This activities are are Temple Pooja, Temple Washing,
Freshies Nite and seniors farewell. And to add to this since 1999 there has been Guidance
Program for the freshies. This is when the seniors and juniors from the same course get
advice and guidance from their seniors about the educational system, the grades and
varsity life tips. Other than that we also conduct semesterly Junior Orientation Program.
This is done to ensure that the "freshies" get to know their seniors better and
that a bitter gap doesn't open up between the seniors and juniors. Indirectly this also
instills respect to the seniors and much improved patience in "freshies". Thus
another program that was done in 1994, 95 and 96 is the Kalvi Yaathirai Program. During
the Kalvi Yaathirai, the ITTHOIS will help out the programs coordinated on that day. But
due to various problems this program hasn't been continued. But during Kalvi Yaathirai
2000, the ITTHOIS made a trip to experience this yearly conducted program.
Since 1994 'till today, the membership has grown from 13 to
130. Thus in 6 years alone the ITTHOIS has grown ten-fold. And from September onwards
ITTHOIS will be officiated as a bureau under ITTHO's Cultural Bureau. With the officiating
of the society we hope that the next generation would be a better one.
